If you’re just starting to play the trumpet, this is the ideal course for you! Learn to play the trumpet! We make it easy by showing you exactly what and how to practice. Each lesson comes with special practice videos to guide you.

In this course, you’ll learn everything about playing the trumpet, from assembling it and making your first sound to playing in a band! We also teach you how to express yourself in music, especially for beginners learning to improvise or play solos. The aim is for you to show your true self through the instrument.

I created this program to make starting your musical journey on the trumpet easy and enjoyable. It’s for anyone who wants to play and has a working trumpet. There are over 2.5 hours of video lessons and practice videos included.

The course is organized in an easy-to-follow format:

  • A video lecture where a new concept or technique is explained.
  • A practice video with voiceovers and graphics to guide you as you play along with the teacher on the screen in “real time.”

The course consists of twelve sets of lessons and practice videos to teach you melody, rhythm, harmony, and improvisation. Additionally, there’s a Jam Room where you can play along with a virtual band at various speeds. As a bonus, there are five animated videos that make music theory easy to understand, explaining the fundamental elements of music.

By the end of this course, you’ll feel confident playing the trumpet independently and with others in various musical scenarios.

Meet your instructor for “Introduction To Playing The Trumpet,” Steve Dyte. Steve is not only an incredible trumpet player but also a dedicated educator, ranking among the top trumpet players in Toronto.

Originally from Orillia, Ontario, Steve has called Toronto home since 1999. He pursued jazz trumpet studies, completing a four-year program at Humber College. Armed with a degree in jazz performance, he gained valuable experience in diverse musical settings, ranging from cruise ship show bands to radio and TV appearances, recordings, musicals, casinos, and sideman gigs.

Steve has enjoyed playing and touring with numerous bands and artists, including King Sunshine, Valery Gore, Emma-Lee, KC Roberts, Jully Black, Scott McCord, Down With Webster, Classic Albums Live, Stayin’ Alive Bee Gee’s Tribute, The Dirty Little Swing Thing, and many more. His stage experience extends to sharing it with artists like Jim Cuddy, Glass Tiger, Cowboy Junkies, Steven Page, Keisha Chante, and Matt Dusk.

In addition to his trumpet skills, Steve is also proficient in playing drums and guitar. Since 2007, he has been a regular member of The Dirty Little Swing Thing, a fantastic party band that performs a wide range of music from the 60s to today, covering classic rock, swing, and soul hits. Steve’s versatility, musical talent, and strong work ethic have established him as one of the most sought-after young musicians in Toronto today.
