What You’ll Do:

Follow the tutorials to learn how to use your paint palette to create this skillful artwork. Remember that you do not have to choose the same colors, or even draw the same building but you can follow the principles of perspective and watercolor to create your own. This class will give you skills that you can apply to your own artwork and carry on creating after the class is done.

The Stages In A Nutshell

Equipment. Make sure you have everything you need to get started.

  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Masking Tape
  • Watercolor Paint
  • Watercolor Paper
  • Water
  • Old Rag

Stages

  • Perspective. If you aren’t confident with perspective, this lesson will show you how to draw it. There’s a more in-depth episode on another video which you can also access to help you improve your skills.
  • Outline. Make life easy for yourself and spend time on the outline and getting the proportions to where you want them. So long as you follow the rules of perspective, the house will still look really good, even if it’s slightly off! Once this is done, the rest of the work is easy and you can mindfully zone out knowing your painting is in proportion.
  • First Layer. Knocking off the white helps us to see the shades for what they really are so on this first layer you’ll do a thin wash to help set the colors and the values.
  • Second Layer. Once your layer is dry, you’ll start to add your shadows and make sure you have a high contrast in lights and darks.
  • Background (optional). If you want to add a background, feel free to do so. Paint it up the masking tape and let it dry.
  • Final Bit. Once your painting is room temperature, slowly peel off the masking tape, sign the bottom right and put it in a frame.

We can’t wait to see what you create!
